NUST has been involved in the process for the majority of the 700+ days it has been ongoing through our two positions on the Fan Advisory Board. Our role has been to advise and challenge the Club on the process, while ensuring engagement with supporters and contact with the relevant regulatory bodies has been maintained throughout.
Throughout this period, we have worked to ensure the Club remained in communication with the Football Association (FA), the Premier League and the Independent Football Regulator (IFR). The IFR confirmed to the Club that it was satisfied with the consultation process, including in relation to Rule M9, and we have seen this confirmation. The Club has also confirmed to us that both the FA and the Premier League were fully sighted on the consultation process throughout. While these bodies would not necessarily provide formal approval in the same way as the IFR, they would have had the opportunity to raise any concerns or request changes to the Club’s proposed approach.
We have maintained regular dialogue with the Club’s executive team on these matters, ensuring that plans and relevant information were communicated effectively. We have also ensured that information was shared between NUST and the FAB, with Trust representation on the FAB helping to maintain that communication.
Whilst not involved in the design of the new crest, NUST has been actively working with the club throughout to ensure that the process was appropriately scrutinised and that the relevant bodies had the information necessary to fulfil their roles.
We fully recognise the importance of the Club’s crest and the heritage it represents to supporters. This is precisely why we have been proactive in challenging the Club to ensure that the historical context and supporting information were properly documented and formally shared as part of the process.
We appreciate the strength of feeling surrounding the crest and remain committed to ensuring that supporters’ views, concerns and the Club’s heritage are treated with the importance they deserve.
