NUST Meets With Interim Independent Football Regulator

On Friday 22 August, NUST, alongside members of the Fan Advisory Board and Football Supporters Association were delighted to attend an online meeting with Martyn Henderson, Interim Independent Football Regulator.

It was an informal meeting where Martyn outlined the key responsibilities of the IFR and how they intend to work with the football pyramid for the good of the game. Martyn took a number of questions from those in attendance and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting him last week.

The regulator has three statutory objectives, which all its actions must aim to advance:

  1. Club Financial Soundness – Promote financial sustainability of individual football clubs, ensuring they make sound, long-term decisions.
  2. Systemic Financial Resilience – Safeguard the financial resilience of English football as a whole, including fair distribution of revenue across the leagues.
  3. Heritage Protection – Preserve the cultural heritage of clubs (e.g., crests, shirt colours, stadium traditions) central to fan identity – Including but not limited to Fan Engagement and true consultation with supporters.

As one of the largest, independent, fully democratic Supporter Trusts in the UK, we look forward to working closely with the IFR and FSA for the good of football
